Children make insect hotels and enjoy bug hunting activity

2pm to 5pm Saturday 19th May 2018 Nature vIbezzz ran a free forest school activity in  Knights Hill Wood. The activity started with bug hunting activities including using butterfly nets to catch flying insects, find insects in trees and under stones.  Flying inescts caught included hover flies and aphids, bugs on trees caught included small spiders, spider mites, aphids and ladybird larvae. But most creeply crawlies caught by the children was under stones and logs these included large spiders, wiggly worms, centipedes, woodlice, ants and slugs.

The children then created bug hotels for the site, this included the children measuring wood to size, sawing, decorating the wood with colouring pens and using a drill to srcew the wood pieces together.  The bug hotels where partly furnished with material for the bugs to make homes in and this will be finished on our next free activity in Knights Hill Wood on Saturday 26th May 2018, please come along and join in.
