Children help litter pick Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood

2pm to 4pm Saturday 27th April 2019 charity Nature Vibezzz ran a free activity for families in Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood, London (near new Fire Station).

Join Nature Vibezzz on their next free family forest school session at Knights Hill Wood 2pm to 4pm Saturday 4th May 2019 where a different activity will be run.

The session involved the participants helping to remove rubbish from the site. Other activities included adding pinecones to the bug hotel, bug hunting, rope climbing and colouring.

The session finished with hot chocolate made using a kelly kettle and cake, awarding everyone for all their hard work cleaning up the woodland site.

Herbal Heritage: Medicinal and other Uses of Native Plants walk

On Tuesday 12th June 2018 Nature Vibezzz organised a free Herbal Heritage:  Medicinal and other Uses of Native Plants walk run by Roy Vickery from South London Botanical Institute.
The walk took place in Knight’s Hill Wood and Tivoli Park as part of Nature Vibezzz Memories, Heritage and Community of Knights Hill Woods and Tivoli Park community project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund. Participants learnt about a wide range of uses of common UK native plants. Plants covered included Ash, Rye grass, Cherry Laurel, Hawtorn, Dock, Elder, Yew, Dandelion and many more. Roy past on lots of fantastic information about the different plants including how and what they have been used for both in the UK and other countries.

Free Tivoli Park Plant ID Course

On Tuesday 22nd May 2018 Nature Vibezzz free plant ID course was run by Dominic Price from The Species Recovery Trust

This well attended course covered the identification of grasses and flowers in Tivoli Park. The course was run 11am to 1:30pm and covered a wide range of plant species with simple identification tips for each. The feedback about the course from the participants was very positive and Nature Vibezzz looks forward to working with The Species Recovery Trust again in the future.

Free insect box making activity

On a rainy Saturday afternoon Nature Vibezzz ran a free family forest school activity in Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood, Lambeth, London. The session ran from 2pm to 4pm on 12th May 2018 and started with a insect hunt around the woods with children finding and collecting ground beetles, centipedes, millipedes, slimmy slugs, aphids, woodlice, scary spiders and wiggly worms. After the bug hunt finished the children found new homes in the woodland for the insects they had collected. Then the insect box home creation started with the children measuring and marking each piece of wood to show where the wood need to be cut for top, bottom & sides of their insect box. The sawing of wood to size was  done with adult help and then the childrem marked what each piece was for. Finally using a drill the boxes were screwed together. Some of the children also decorated their insect boxes and others filled their boxes to make comfy insect homes. The session finished with hot chocolate and biscuits for everyone.

Nature Vibezzz is running a seires of free family nature activities in Knights Hill Wood every Saturday 2pm to 4pm, so please come along and join in the fun.

Photos taken on Saturday 28th April 2018 of wild flower glade at Knights Hill Wood created by participants on Nature Vibezzz free activities and protected by dead hedge. The wild flower glade help increase the biodiversity at the site providing habitat and food for insects and birds. Whilst the dead hedge both provides protection for the glade wild flowers and shelter for insects and small animals.

Free Bird Walk

On Thursday 26th April 2018 Nature Vibezzz organised a free bird walk, the walk was lead by David Darrell-Lambert from Bird Brain UK.  The walk was organised as part of Memories, Heritage and Community of Knights Hill Woods and Tivoli Park community project funded by Heritage Lottery Fund. Over 20 people come along and took part in the walk, with participants from a wide range of ages from young children to older members of the community. The walk started at Portobello TRA community room with hots drinks and biscuits, plus binoculars was lent to participants.  The walk took the participants around both Knights Hill Wood and Tivoli Park with bird expert David Darrell-Lambert pointing out birds / bird calls, telling interesting facts and answering questions.

Free Saturday afternoon Forest School sessions

From Saturday 5th May 2018 Nature Vibezzz is running a series of free forest school activities for families and children of any age. The activities will run every Saturday 2pm to 4pm at Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood, Lambeth, London. Come along and take part in these fun activities.
