Free family activity at Knights Hill Wood

2pm to 4pm Saturday 30th June 2018 Nature Vibezzz ran a free family nature conservation activity at Knights Hill Wood West Norwood Lambeth London.

The activity involved contuing to make the dead hedge which will protect the wild flower glade created on previous community activities at the site. All ages took part in digging holes, installing wooden posts and filling in the hedge with sticks.

The children also enjoyed climbing ropes, rope swing, hunting for bugs and colouring.

The activity finished with a healthy fruit snack.

Come join us next Saturday at Knights Hill Wood from 2pm and help make a big different to this wonderful woodland site.

Making insect hotels & clay animals

2pm to 5pm Saturday 26th May 2018 Nature Vibezzz ran a free family forest school activity in Knights Hill Wood West Norwood London. The activity started with bug hunting around the woodland site with the children finding a wide variety of creeply crawlies. The children was shown various technquies to find aphids, spider mites, caterpillars & spiders living in trees plus slugs, worms, beetles, centipedes, woodlice, snails and other inects living under rocks or logs.

The children also enjoyed colouring insect pictures and rope swings / climbing before our main activities started. On this session the children finished the insect hotels started on our last session, this involved measuring, sawing and drilling. The insect hotels was also filled with natural furniture to make a perfect home for lots of bugs.

The children also made animals from clay, either added them to the hotels or taking them home to look after.

Come and join us this Saturday for more fun in the woodland looking for insects and building homes for them.

Children make insect hotels and enjoy bug hunting activity

2pm to 5pm Saturday 19th May 2018 Nature vIbezzz ran a free forest school activity in  Knights Hill Wood. The activity started with bug hunting activities including using butterfly nets to catch flying insects, find insects in trees and under stones.  Flying inescts caught included hover flies and aphids, bugs on trees caught included small spiders, spider mites, aphids and ladybird larvae. But most creeply crawlies caught by the children was under stones and logs these included large spiders, wiggly worms, centipedes, woodlice, ants and slugs.

The children then created bug hotels for the site, this included the children measuring wood to size, sawing, decorating the wood with colouring pens and using a drill to srcew the wood pieces together.  The bug hotels where partly furnished with material for the bugs to make homes in and this will be finished on our next free activity in Knights Hill Wood on Saturday 26th May 2018, please come along and join in.

Free insect box making activity

On a rainy Saturday afternoon Nature Vibezzz ran a free family forest school activity in Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood, Lambeth, London. The session ran from 2pm to 4pm on 12th May 2018 and started with a insect hunt around the woods with children finding and collecting ground beetles, centipedes, millipedes, slimmy slugs, aphids, woodlice, scary spiders and wiggly worms. After the bug hunt finished the children found new homes in the woodland for the insects they had collected. Then the insect box home creation started with the children measuring and marking each piece of wood to show where the wood need to be cut for top, bottom & sides of their insect box. The sawing of wood to size was  done with adult help and then the childrem marked what each piece was for. Finally using a drill the boxes were screwed together. Some of the children also decorated their insect boxes and others filled their boxes to make comfy insect homes. The session finished with hot chocolate and biscuits for everyone.
