Free family nature activity at Tivoli Park

2pm to 4pm Saturday 23rd March 2019 Nature Vibezzz ran a free family activiy session at Tivoli Park, West Norwood.

The session included the continued creation of the the wildlfower meadow area and wildlife hedge along the park boundary. Other activities included child led play, bug hunting, drawing, rope climbing and swings. The session finsihed with hot choclate and healthy fruit snack.

The next session will be 2pm to 4pm Saturday 30th March 2019, where we need the help of as many people as possible to make big improvements to Tivoli Park.

Free family activities at Tivoli Park

2pm to 4pm Saturday 9th March 2019 Nature Vibezzz are a free family nature activity at Tivoli Park in West Norwood.

The activity involved tree planting, creation of wildflower meadow, rope climbing / swing, bug hunting and outdoor play. The session finished with a healthy fruit snack and hot chocolate.

The next Nature Vibezzz free family session in Tivoli Park will be 2pm to 4pm Saturday 16th March 2019.

Tree planting in Tivoli Park

2pm to 4pm Saturday 2nd March 2019 Nature Vibezzz ran a free family tree planting activity in Tivoli Park.

Participants helped planting native tree saplings along the boundary of Tivoli Park to create a wildlife hedge which will be continued on future activities. Other activities participants was involved in was insect hunting, rope swing / climbing, photography and helping move logs which will be used for boundary of a new wild flower meadow. The session finished with a healthy fruit snack.

Free Weekly Saturday Family Nature Activities Restart in Knight Hill Wood

Charity Nature Vibezzz free Saturday afternoon family activities restarted 2pm to 4pm Saturday 19th January 2019. These free activity sessions are part of Nature Vibezzz community project “Memories, Heritage and Community of Knights Hill Woods and Tivoli Park”.

This first session of 2019 started with participants litter picking Knights Hill Wood, followed by planting tree saplings on the boundary of the site to create a wildlife hedge and insect hunting.

The participants then enjoyed free play around the woodland site including enjoying the rope swing. The session finished with hot chocolate and cake.

The next session will be 2pm to 4pm Saturday 26th January 2019.

Planting wildflower seeds, bulbs and native trees in Knights Hill Wood

2pm to 5pm Saturday 10th November 2018 Nature Vibezzz ran a free family nature activity in Knights Hill Wood, West Norwood, London. The session started with participants litter picking the woods, with their hard work  2 sacks of rubbish was removed from the woodland.

Rope swing, bug hunting equipment and drawing materials was made available for the children to use and enjoy during the session.

Following the litter picking participants seeded the woodland glade area with native woodland wildflower seed mixture. The seeds was mixed with sand to help participants see where the seeds had already been scattered and sown.

This woodland flower seed mixture contained wild flower species able to tolerate shade and is suitable for sowing in woodland areas.  The wild flowers are adapted to growing amongst established trees where shading has reduced light levels down to 25% of that in the open.  All of the wild flower seeds are of British native origin.   The mixture consisted of seeds from the following:

Bluebell  Hyacinthoides non-scripta, Betony Stachys officinalis, Red Campion  ilene dioica, Foxglove Digitalis purpurea, Garlic Mustard Alliaria petiolata, Hedge Woundwort Stachys sylvatica, Hedge Bedstraw Galium mollugo, Nettle-leaved Bellflower Campanula trachelium, Meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria Perforate, St John’s Wort Hypericum perforatum, Ragged Robin Lychnis flos-cuculi, Ramsons (Wild Garlic) Allium ursinum, Selfheal Prunella vulgaris, Wood Avens  Geum urbanum, Wood Sage Teucrium scorodonia.

Then native woodland bulbs and rhizones was planted around the edge of the glade these included Bluebells, Snowdrops, Wild daffodils, Ramsons and Winter Aconites.

Native woodland tree saplings was also planting around boundary of the woods by the participants, the trees came from Woodland Trust free tree packs which included Hazel, Blackthorn, Downy birch, Hawthorn, Holly, Goat willow Crab apple and Dog rose trees.

The session finished with participants cooking and eating a healthy vegetable soup. The soup was cooked on a campfire with participants chopping wood for the fire and cutting vegetables for the soup.

On our next activity starting 2pm Saturday 17th November 2018 we will be continuing to plant trees around the boundary of Knights Hill Wood, please come and join us.

Free Saturday nature activites in Knights Hill Wood and Tivoli Park

Nature Vibezzz free family nature conservation and forest school activities will re-start 2pm to 4pm Saturday 6th October 2018. Activities will take place in Tivoli Park and Knights Hill Wood West Norwood, Lambeth, London.

Scouts help at Knights Hill Wood

On Friday 25th May a group of scouts and their leaders came to Knights Hill Wood and helped make improvements the site. They litter picked the site removing over 20 sacks of rubbish and found 2 mystery metal objects dumped at the site.

If anyone can identify these please let us know.

The scouts planted over 30 tree saplings, which will form part of a wildlife hedge around the boundary of the site. The hedge with help increase the biodiversity of the site and hopefully reduce the amount of rubbish being dumped. Paths around the site was also widened, with nettles being cut back to make the site more accessible for people to enjoy.

The session finished with hot chocolate, roasted marshmellows, fruit and biscuits.
